A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW | Reviewed by: Mary Lignor
The heroine of the Death and Taxes series, Tara Holloway, is a special agent of the IRS and is their weapon against income tax dodgers. This is the second book in this series and will soon be joined by the third, "Death, Taxes and Extra Hold Hairspray." Tara and her partner, Eddie, have been assigned to investigate Marcos Mendoza, a suspected loan shark that has most of his connections in Mexico. Marcos has never been formally accused of a crime but, business partners of his have the unhappy background of turning up dead. Tara is planning a vacation with her signficant other, and wants to get this case cleared up. She is also on a diet so she can fit into a new dress bought for the occasion. So, she and Eddie ramp up the investigation and, of course, get into all sorts of trouble. She is a latte fan and has had to change to fat free coffee as she has been on a stakeout for two weeks trying to find evidence against Mendoza and is beginning to spread out a little. With Eddie's help and the assistance of a female FBI agent that she met in the previous book, "Death, Taxes and a French Manicure," Tara is hot on the trail of the bad guys. Income tax evasion is usually a hard sell to readers but, with this gal on the trail, readers should be prepared for a laugh fest. The writer is first class and there is a lot of humor contained in this series. It is a definite keeper.
