THE LOOK OF LOVE adheres to the tried and true formulas of MaryJane Clark’s other novelist relatives: Mary Higgins Clark and Carol Higgins Clark. It’s a well-paced novel with some humorous aspects, great character development, and a good plot (although, I confess, I figured out the murderer early on). MJ Clark’s take on murder at a plush, glitzy Hollywood spa is fresh, and her heroine, Piper Donovan, is likeable if perhaps a tad squeamish in the romance department (hesitant about getting it on with her FBI agent neighbor – oh, boy!). The subplot is interesting and does not distract from the main theme of the novel. Suspense fans will find this an enjoyable read, as did I. This series has great promise and I look forward eagerly to the next installment.
