At Close Range

Tracers, #11

I really liked this exciting romantic suspense story. Dani Harper is a police detective who catches the case of a double homicide. When facts from the crime scene don't add up, Dani turns to the Delphi Center crime lab to help her make sense of it. Scott Black is their firearms/ballists expert and a friend of her older brother's. Dani struggles to put aside her attraction to him while they work on solving the case. As things progress though, the killer turns his sights on Dani and Scott will do anything to protect her.

I had not read the previous books in the series and somehow missed that this was book eleven. I was a little worried when I started it that I would have a hard time following along. Fortunately that was not the case. This book worked just fine as a stand alone.

I love romantic suspense as a genre and this was a great example of it. This was fast paced and the case was interesting and exciting. I liked both Dani and Scott and they were great together as a couple. I thought the romance was well done and the forbidden lovers trope is one that always works well for me if it's done right. This one certainly was.

This was my first book in this series and I'm kicking myself for not finding it sooner. I can't wait to go back and read the previous books in the series and I will definitely be reading any new ones that come out.

New York Times bestselling author Laura Griffin “delivers the goods” (Publishers Weekly) again with the eleventh title in the gritty, heart-pounding Tracers series.

When a lakeside tryst ends in a double murder, police detective Daniele Harper arrives on the scene determined to get answers. Clues are everywhere, but nothing adds up. Dani turns to the Delphi Center crime lab for help, but soon regrets it when her secret attraction to their chief firearms examiner threatens to distract her from the most important case of her career.

As a ballistics expert and former Navy SEAL, Scott Black knows firearms, and he knows he can help Dani unravel her case. Scott has managed to hide his interest in his best friend’s younger sister for years, but when her investigation brings them together, the sparks between them quickly burn out of control. Scott resolves to keep his hands off Dani and his eyes on the goal—identifying a killer. But when that killer zeroes in on her, all bets are off. There isn’t a line Scott won’t cross to convince Dani to trust him so that he can help her take down a ruthless murderer who has her in his sights.
