“Locked, Loaded & Lying” by Sarah Andre is an exciting story that gives a glimpse of the other side of the fame and pressure attendant upon being a top athlete even as it gradually reveals clues about a murder mystery. There are very complicated family dynamics for both of the main characters and some intense tragedies that may be very painful for those who have emotional triggers. I was caught in Lock’s struggle to deal with his feelings of guilt and his fear of what he might have done but I was somewhat irked by his odd relationship with his brother, as I would have thought that ten months of forced proximity would have stimulated more confrontation and hopefully a quicker resolution of some of their issues. I had trouble forming a connection to Jordan, although I sympathized with the pressures on her, and, although the suspense did escalate as the danger ratcheted up, her relationship with Lock was frustrating for me. The secondary characters are a little underdeveloped and it would be great to know a little more about some of them, especially Leo. I would definitely read other stories by this author, but this one didn’t resonate completely with me.
This contemporary romantic suspense story features Lock Roane, whose career as a top Olympic skier is threatened by his being accused of the horrific murder of his girlfriend. He doesn’t expect the woman he rescues from a wrecked car to have such a negative agenda and to be incapable of telling the truth, which makes his growing attraction to her even more complicated. Unfortunately, Jordan Sinclair is between a rock and a hard place, and if push comes to shove, she’s going to choose family over the man who has such a negative reputation…but it gets harder and harder, the more she comes to know the true man under the façade, except the price to follow her heart may be far too high to pay.
He might be innocent. Or he might be very, very guilty... Olympic skier Lock Roane was on top of the world: smashing world records, collecting medals, and basking in the love of a nation and his beautiful heiress girlfriend. It all comes crashing down after Lock discovers his girlfriend had an affair--then wakes from a drunken bender to find himself covered in her blood. Disgraced and dethroned, Lock awaits his murder trial with dread, not knowing if his girlfriend died at his own hands.
Journalist Jordan Sinclair is out of options. To satisfy her blackmailer, she must get the inside scoop (and its cash reward) on Lock Roane. An attraction to the arrogant athlete was not part of the plan. Neither is trying to find out what really happened that night. Now Jordan risks everything--including her life--to help the man she's falling for. A man who just might be a cold-blooded killer...
