Amity Allen presents a perfectly delightful cozy mystery with the first in her series starring Poppy the former teen tv star. Poppy Parker is a fun and fresh addition to the ranks of amateur sleuths. As a teen celebrity I was expecting her to be a tad obnoxious but she was rather strangely ordinary except for her budding Magical powers. She handled the realization of her abilities rather well. And it was interesting to see her settling back into her home as an adult after being away for so many years. The backdrop of a children's beauty pageant was at times shocking and amusing. Her relationship with her new partners and her aunt was lovely to witness and if I hadn't already liked her her actions toward the cat would have definitely won me over. I'm looking forward to her developing her magical and detective skills and I can't wait to discover what she gets involved with next.
When Poppy Parker's television show gets cancelled she decides to move back home and leave the glitz of Hollywood behind. But she doesn't end up leaving everything behind as her real life starts taking on echoes of her former roll as a witch detective.
As soon as Poppy Parker turns 21, the star of a popular TV show about witch detectives discovers she has supernatural powers off the set as well as on. When the show is canceled, she returns home to figure out how to harness the magic brewing inside her.
Freaked out by these recent paranormal gifts, Poppy just wants to fit in, so when she’s asked to serve as a judge for the annual Bloomin’ Belles youth beauty competition she readily agrees.
But when the pageant’s snooty director drops dead and Poppy’s friend is arrested,
the former TV sleuth sets out to uncover the real killer, only to find…
the business of beauty can be deadly.
