America’s favorite furry feline detective, Midnight Louie, returns in his twenty-seventh adventure! The usual cast of characters are back, and while Temple Barr is happily planning her wedding to ex-priest Matt Devine, her ex-boyfriend, magician turned spy Max Kinsella is busy trying to wrap up some loose ends of his past in Ireland, a past that includes a long lost cousin and a devlish ex-lover. ON the home front, Temple has plenty to keep her busy. Temple’s landlady Electra has enlisted her aid when a porn shop wants to move into the neighborhood. AS Electra puts it ‘maybe Temple can turn X-rated into X-iled.”
Fans of this series will not be disappointed. There’s plenty of action, and one can see the threads Nelson has so carefully woven throughout the series twenty-six volume run start to begin to be tied up into what one hopes will be a satisfying conclusion. Louie’s investigation into the “Zoot Suit Choo-Choo” is a highlight. But for die-hard fans, the big question remains: Which suitor will Temple choose, the Mystifying Max or radio shrink ex-priest Matt Devine? As Nelson teases in her epilogue at the end, the forthcoming last volume is “not goodbye…it’s really a way of saying, hang on, the best is yet to be.” We can certainly hope that we haven't seen the last of Midnight Louie!
