Current Release: I Have a Secret
Describe your current release in two sentences?
It’s been twenty years since PI Sloane Monroe has returned to her hometown of Tehachapi, California, but when a former classmate is stabbed and tossed overboard during the high school reunion cruise, Sloane isn’t about to allow a murderer to run free in her own backyard. But in a town where everyone is harboring secrets, how many more men will die before she discovers the truth?
Please describe your writing environment.
I usually write at my desk unless I'm on vacation. I like to have a vase of flowers on my desk, and I always have my reference books handy for those times when I need to look up something on poisons or need a quick brush-up on my writing skills. I have a sticker on the wall in front of me that says, "Women who behave rarely make history."
What are you working on?
Right now, I'm working on the fourth book in the Sloane Monroe Series, Stranger in Town. I've just started and I don't outline. I've found the story comes together a lot better when it's spontaneous.
What do you feel blessed with?
Life. I'm blessed with so many things from my marriage and family, to the ability to do what I love for a living. Each day is a blessing.
What was your childhood ambition?
I've always wanted to write. When I was young, I wrote short stories and poems. Some of my poems were published.
What is your favorite TV show?
I truly can't pick just one! I love scandalous television like Revenge and The Borgias, but I'm also hooked on historical shows. I like to learn things when I watch TV. I've just started watching Downton Abbey (I know, a bit late, but sometimes I'm the last kid to arrive at the bus stop). My husband thinks it's the most boring thing on television, but I can appreciate the beauty of it. Last but not least, I would be remiss not to mention the show I miss the most: The Tudors. Good grief that was an amazing show!
What career fields have you worked in?
I was a real estate agent, among other things.
What are your plans for the summer? Any books you are looking forward to?
I've already traveled a bit, but I'll be returning to Alaska for the second time in two years. I plan to incorporate the setting into a novel someday, but that's not why I visit. I am also still desperate to visit The Smithsonian. Love all that historical stuff.
How was your road to publication?
Great. I've only been published for a little over a year, and I'm very happy with the way things are going. I was fortunate to make a lot of author friends right out the gate by founding the Facebook site Indie Writers Unite. It feels good to be where I'm at today!
If you could time travel, where would you travel to and why?
I love period films, so I'd like to go back in time to the days of bustiers and powdered faces. As long as I wasn't poor or wicked enough to get my head lopped off. Either that, or I'd love to live in the time Jane Austen did. In my mind, that whole era is entirely romantic.
If you could live in a world created by an author, which book / world would you jump into?
I would jump into Pride and Prejudice as Elizabeth Bennet. And Darcy would have to be the one played by Colin Firth. I have every bit the attitude of Elizabeth Bennet.
I appreciate you stopping by to check out my author q and a. Happy reading!
