I wouldn’t have chosen this book if I didn’t think I would like it, but I do think I got more than I had bargained for!!!
When a key witness fails to appear in court, Simone is in big trouble, but she knows Maya wouldn’t simply bail. The judge gives her a brief continuance, but she needs to find her witness, ASAP, without raising too many red flags.
She knows just the person for the job, her ex-husband and former PI, Vince.
But, convincing him might be a problem. Their marriage only lasted three years. However, the chemistry between them still sizzles, but so do the old resentments that forced them apart.
But, Vince has never been able to resist Simone, so for better or worse, the two team up to find their missing witness.
However, someone out there does not want them asking too many questions…
Anyone who knows me can attest to my love for romantic suspense. No matter how often I experiment with other genres, or how much time I spend discovering new authors, I always find my way back to this irresistible combination of romance and mystery.
But, people who follow my reviews also know I don’t like the story to sway too far to one side or the other. I realize it is probably hard to strike that balance, but Anna J. Stewart does a wonderful job of creating romantic and sexual tension within a stellar crime story.
The story is multi-layered, with shady politicians, an emotional backstory involving Vince’s brother, and a personal loss that spurred Simone into putting her career over her marriage.
The plot is intelligent and the story is fast paced with plenty of twists and action. The romantic side worked just the way I like it, with plenty of buildup before the fireworks explode.
So, overall, I was very happy with the book from the traditional RS format, the sharp dialogue and the pacing. I think any fan of RS would enjoy this one!!
In this Honor Bound romance, a perilous change of heart looms for two former lovers...
