The Bookmobile Cat Mystery Series by Laurie Cass - Dark Streets
For those who like Cats...the Bookmobile Cat mystery series might be for you.
I like curling up with a good cozy, especially ones that feature animals, cats in particular. One of the most popular cat cozies around is the “Bookmobile Cat” mystery series written by Laurie Cass.
The series centers on librarian Minnie Hamilton, a librarian who drives the local library’s bookmobile in the town of Chilson, Michigan. One day a gray tabby follows Minnie home. She names him Eddie and he becomes her constant companion and when he follows her onto the bookmobile, the vehicle’s unofficial mascot. In book one, LENDING A PAW, Minnie and Eddie’s first day visiting readers around the county seems to pass without trouble—until Eddie darts outside at the last stop and leads her to the body of a local man who’s reached his final chapter.
Initially, Minnie is ready to let the police handle this case, but Eddie seems to smell a rat. Together, they’ll work to find the killer—because a good librarian always knows when justice is overdue.
In Book Two, TAILING A TABBY, the bookmobile is making its usual rounds when Minnie and Eddie are flagged down by a woman in distress. The woman’s husband, a famous artist, needs emergency medical care. After getting him into the bookmobile, Minnie races the man to the hospital in time…but his bad luck has only just begun.
After disappearing from the hospital, the artist is discovered slumped over the body of a murdered woman. Minnie and her furry friend have to catch the real killer before someone else checks out.
In BORROWED CRIME, Minnie is determined to keep her pet project afloat after she loses a grant that was supposed to keep the bookmobile afloat. She also has her hands full making sure the library director doesn’t find out about Eddie. But when a volunteer dies on the bookmobile’s route, Minnie finds her traveling library in an even more precarious position. Although the death was originally ruled a hunting accident, a growing stack of clues is pointing towards murder. It’s up to Minnie and Eddie to find the killer!
Book 4, POUNCING ON MURDER, finds us in Minnie’s favorite time of year: maple syrup season! But her excitement fades when her favorite syrup provider, Henry Gill, dies in a sugaring accident. On the bookmobile rounds with her trusty rescue cat Eddie, Minnie meets Adam, the old man's friend, who was with him when he died. Adam is convinced Henry’s death wasn’t an accident, and fears that his own life is in danger. With the police overworked, it's up to Minnie and Eddie to tap all their resources before Adam ends up in a sticky situation...
In Book 5, CAT WITH A CLUE, Minnie stumbles upon a woman’s dead body while shelving books. Authorities identify the woman as an out-of-towner visiting Chilson for her great-aunt’s funeral. What she was doing in the library after hours is anyone’s guess . . . and as rumors about the victim circulate through Chilson, the police are in a bind over a streak of baffling break-ins. So of course it’s up to…who else? Minnie and Eddie to solve the puzzle.
This is a charming series, well written and plotted out, and it’s a sure bet there are more to come. This should definitely be on your “TBR list” if it’s not already!
