I am a HUGE fan of Jana DeLeon with her humorous novels about small towns with big Southern drama. She has hit another novel bullseye with Louisiana Longshot . Along beside Fortune, readers will get sucked into the murder mystery of the most hated man in town and the plight of the main suspect who everyone hopes got away with murder. This is quite the predicament for an undercover CIA agent, trying to stay under the radar, in platinum blonde hair extensions and bright pink accessories. It’s hard for our heroine to stay out of the investigation when she’s the one who discovers the human remains.
If you were looking for Louisiana Longshot in a bookstore, it would most likely be shelved in the mystery section, versus romance. However, there is real chemistry between Fortune and the town Deputy so the romance door is wide open to continue in the next book. Not to say that love is not part of this book. I enjoyed the love connection between Ida Belle and Walter and the lengths Marge went to protect her unrequited love. But mostly I love the quirkiness of Jana’s storyline small details. For those who read this book, you will never think of Banana Pudding the same again. I don’t know where she comes up with this funny stuff but I can’t wait to read the next book in her Miss Fortune Mystery Series.
It was a hell of a longshot...
CIA Assassin Fortune Redding is about to undertake her most difficult mission ever - in Sinful, Louisiana.
With a leak at the CIA and a price on her head by one of the world's largest arms dealers, Fortune has to go off grid, but she never expected to be this far out of her element. Posing as a former beauty queen turned librarian in a small, bayou town seems worse than death to Fortune, but she's determined to fly below the radar until her boss finds the leak and puts the arms dealer out of play.
Unfortunately, she hasn't even unpacked a suitcase before her newly-inherited dog digs up a human bone in her backyard. Thrust into the middle of a bayou murder mystery, Fortune teams up with a couple of seemingly-sweet old ladies whose looks completely belie their hold on the little town. To top things off, the handsome local deputy is asking her too many questions. If she's not careful, this investigation may blow her cover and get her killed.
Armed with her considerable skills and a group of old ladies referred to by locals as The Geritol Mafia, Fortune has no choice but to solve the murder before it's too late. (Novel - 45,000 - 69,999)
