Booked for Trouble makes for an excellent read and definitely one reason to stay inside, snug and cozy next to a fire. Do not underestimate the power of this novel leading you astray in terms of chores! It is a unique setting for a library, but this aids the plot in terms of quirky situations and characters. Hands down the best mystery series where no one but the cops ask the questions!
Lucy Richardson is still settling down to her new job and digs at the Bodie Island Lighthouse in North Carolina when her mother pops in for a visit. Suzanne is a loving mother who wants the best for her daughter. It doesn't take long for Lucy to determine her parents are having marital problems. But Lucy has more important issues: like a dead body found near the Lighthouse.
The cops, aware of Lucy's history when it comes to solving their murders, insist no one ask any questions or do anything, so they can solve this murder. What makes it worse is the victim was a former classmate of her mother's and they were seen in public arguing. Sadly, the cops don't believe Lucy when she insists the two made up just before leaving the Lighthouse the night before. Thus, Suzanne is their top suspect. And Lucy is busy trying to figure out who did in the classmate before the cops lock up her mother!
This is a fun, witty, and at times persnickety novel creating outstanding dynamics between characters. I loved the living situation in the lighthouse too! The series will go far as there are plenty of great characters with a strong mix of differing personalities all of which aid the novel and the series. This is a very warm-hearted novel which also aids in this reader waiting for book three, which sadly, won't be out until 2016! Regardless, this is a book with wonderful dynamics and can easily be a standalone novel.
