Hex Marks the Spot

Bewitching Mysteries, #3

In the third of Madelyn Alt's Bewitching series, fledgling witch Maggie O'Neill finds the dark winds stirring in normally placid Stony Mill, even among the peace-loving Amish community. When a handsome young Amish farmer is found murdered--the latest in a string of crimes against the Amish--Maggie finds herself drawn in both physically and psychically. Could be that the Amish victim, Luc, isn't exactly the steady farmer and woodcarver everyone thought.

Alt's series picks up steam as it progresses from book to book, with Maggie learning more about her powers and plots that delve more richly into small-town Americana and the secrets it invariably hides. The use of the local Amish community adds an interesting layer to the is-it-magic-or-is-it-just a murder mystery, although as always with the novels in this series, Hex will appeal more to the cozy mystery reader with a taste for light paranormal than to hardcore urban fantasy or paranormal fiction readers.

Book Blurb for Hex Marks the Spot

While her boss becomes entranced with a beautiful armoire at the countywide craft bazaar, Maggie can't help noticing the Amish craftsman who made it. Though his clothes may be plain, he himself is more handsome than a man sporting a jawline-only beard has any right to be. And he seems pretty aware that the ladies love his...furniture. But when the hunky craftsman turns up dead with a strange hex symbol near his corpse, Maggie wonders if the craft involved is the witchy kind.
