Chasing the Night

Eve Duncan Series #11

Eve Duncan is a forensic sculptor. But now she is called upon to do an age progression to help a mother unite with her lost son. Catherine Ling is an agent with the CIA and so was her husband. They were tasked with bringing down a high ranking criminal who was involved with the Russian Mob. Nine years ago when Catherine found out she was pregnant she quit the CIA and settled in the States. The man they took down has found out who they are. He calls Catherine on the phone and while speaking to her husband the Russian shots him. At the same time he sends someone to break in and take the baby. Her son was only two years old the last time Catherine had seen him. The Russian, Rakovac, calls Catherine and taunts her about the welfare of her son. The CIA is using Rakovac as an informant so they are not willing to help Catherine rescue her son. They keep promising her that they will help but keep putting her off. Now Catherine has had enough. She wants her son and she doesn't care who she has to use to get him. The more Eve works on the age progression of Luke the more she starts to get deeper involved in Catherine's' story. Eve promised herself she would not become involved but she finds herself in deep. Will Catherine and Eve be able to save Luke, or will Rakovac win by destroying them both?

This is the eleventh installment of Ms. Johansen's Eve Duncan series. I have been a huge fan of this series from the first book. This series keeps getting better and better. The characters are so believable and they keep growing. This story will grab your attention and keep you wanting more.

Book Blurb for Chasing the Night

A CIA agent’s two-year-old child was stolen in the night as a brutal act of vengeance. Now, eight years later, this torment is something Catherine Ling awakens to every day. Her friends, family, and colleagues tell her to let go, move on, accept that her son is never coming back. But she can’t. Catherine needs to find someone as driven and obsessed as she is to help her— and that person is Eve Duncan. She knows that Eve shares her nightmare, since closure is also something that eludes Eve after the disappearance of her daughter Bonnie. Now, Eve must take her talents as a forensic sculptor to another level, using age progression as a way to unite Catherine with her child. As Eve gets drawn deeper into Catherine’s horror, she must face looming demons of her own.

Bonnie’s killer is still out there. And a new killer is taunting Eve and Catherine at every turn. Is Catherine’s son alive, or not? These two women endure the worst fear any mother can imagine in Iris Johansen’s latest thrill ride, a gut-wrenching journey into the darkest places of the soul.
